Platform Migrations

Re-platform to Shopify Plus without losing momentum.

Replatforming done right is a competitive advantage. Done wrong, it's a costly setback. Since 2018, Seed CMS has completed over 110 migrations to Shopify Plus a depth of experience no checklist can replicate. We migrate brands from Magento, Salesforce Commerce Cloud, WooCommerce, and BigCommerce, handling data mapping, redirect strategy, integration re-architecture, theme build, and go-live cutover. Our phased approach minimizes downtime, protects your SEO equity, and delivers a fully operational store from day one.

The work

Migration is the most consequential thing your storefront will do this year.

Replatforming done right is a competitive advantage. Done wrong, it's a costly setback. Since 2018, Seed CMS has completed over 110 platform migrations to Shopify Plus giving us a depth of experience that no checklist can replicate.

We migrate brands from Magento, Salesforce Commerce Cloud, WooCommerce, and BigCommerce, handling every layer of the transition: data mapping and migration, redirect strategy, third-party integration re-architecture, theme build, and go-live cutover. Our phased approach minimizes downtime, protects your SEO equity, and gives your team a fully operational Shopify Plus store from day one.

Whether you're a mid-market brand escaping the overhead of Magento or an enterprise operation moving off Salesforce Commerce Cloud, we've run this play before and we'll run it for you.

What's included.

A migration engagement covers everything that moves between the old and the new and everything that has to stay standing while it happens.

01

Full data migration

Products, variants, customers, orders, metafields, content, redirects. Mapped to Shopify's model, normalized, validated, and loaded.

  • Catalog mapping & variant logic
  • Customer accounts with order history
  • Metafields and metaobject schema design
  • Content, blogs, navigation, redirects
02

SEO preservation

The hardest part of any re-platform. We design for parity at the URL, structured-data, and content level so rankings hold or improve.

  • URL mapping & 301 strategy
  • Structured data and JSON-LD parity
  • Page-level content equivalence checks
  • Pre/post crawl benchmarking
03

App + integration re-wiring

Klaviyo, Yotpo, Recharge, OMS, ERP, search, reviews, loyalty. Mapped to Shopify-native equivalents or kept in flight without service interruption.

  • Stack audit & mapping plan
  • Native-first replacements where possible
  • Webhook + middleware re-wiring
  • Subscription & loyalty continuity

Our approach.

Six phases. Sequenced so each one de-risks the next. No surprises, no late-stage discoveries, no Friday-night cut-overs.

Step 01

Discover

Audit your current platform end-to-end data model, dependencies, custom logic, integrations, third-party apps, traffic patterns, and SEO surface. The output is a single source of truth that tells us exactly what's moving.

Step 02

Plan

Architecture decisions on Shopify Plus. Migration sequencing. A cut-over plan with a defined rollback strategy. We agree the launch window with you and protect it.

Step 03

Build

Shopify Plus storefront engineering, data migration scripts, integration re-wiring. Done in parallel by a senior team. Everything instrumented from day one so we can prove what we shipped.

Step 04

Validate

QA against the legacy environment, performance benchmarking, SEO checks, stakeholder UAT. Every flow exercised. We don't move to cut-over until you've signed off on every category that matters.

Step 05

Cut over

Coordinated launch window with both teams on the line. DNS swap, live monitoring, rapid response. Most cut-overs we run are zero-downtime and we plan for the failure modes that aren't.

Step 06

Optimize

Post-launch tuning. Core Web Vitals work. SEO recovery monitoring. Iteration on the things that didn't ship in the cut-over window. We stay on for as long as you need us usually as an ongoing retainer.

Honest answers.

The questions we get from CFOs, CTOs, and operators before they sign. If yours isn't here, ask us directly.

How long does a migration actually take?

Most migrations land between 4 and 12 weeks, depending on catalog size, integration complexity, and how much custom logic lives on the source platform. We've shipped enterprise migrations in under 30 days when the calendar demands it Kate Somerville is the public reference.

The variable that moves timeline the most isn't size it's clarity. Brands that come in with a clear stack inventory and decisive stakeholders consistently ship at the fast end of the range.

Will we lose SEO rankings during the cut-over?

No when SEO is engineered into the migration plan from day one. Our SEO preservation playbook covers URL mapping, 301 strategy, structured data parity, content equivalence, and pre/post crawl benchmarking.

On the last 12 migrations we've shipped, organic traffic was at parity or higher within four weeks of launch. The cases where it took longer were almost always brands that used migration as cover to consolidate or kill legacy URL structures a deliberate trade-off, not a regression.

Can you migrate us during our peak season?

Yes and we've done it. Kate Somerville cut over to Shopify Plus in time for BF/CM. The playbook for in-season migrations is different: tighter cut-over window, more conservative rollback strategy, real-time monitoring, both teams on the bridge for launch and the 48 hours after.

If your peak is mission-critical, we'll often recommend a sequenced approach soft-launch a subset of traffic, validate, then scale rather than a flag day.

Do you handle the third-party app stack?

End to end. We audit the existing stack, propose Shopify-native replacements where they exist, and re-wire the integrations that don't have a native equivalent. Subscriptions, email, reviews, search, loyalty, ERP, OMS all in scope.

We're partners with most of the major commerce platforms in the Shopify ecosystem Klaviyo, Recharge, Pack, Searchspring, Okendo, Gorgias, Elevar, and others so we're certified to implement and opinionated about which ones to use when.

What about custom features we built on the old platform?

Custom logic gets a custom plan. In Discover we map every bespoke feature to one of three buckets: replicate (we rebuild it on Shopify, often using Metaobjects and Functions), replace (a native or app-based equivalent), or retire (it wasn't earning its keep on the old platform either).

On Kate Somerville we rebuilt their in-cart sample picker, gift-with-purchase engine, and shoppable ingredient library as native Shopify features removing three third-party apps in the process.

How do you work with our in-house dev team?

However works for you. Some brands hand us the migration and step back; others want to be embedded in every PR. We can run shared GitHub, daily standups, your project management of choice, and we transfer ownership cleanly at launch with documentation, runbooks, and a knowledge-transfer week.

If you have a senior in-house team, we work alongside them. If you don't, we'll often stay on as a retainer post-launch performance, optimization, and the natural backlog of "things we deferred for the cut-over."
